MATCH REPORT
19 April 2007
Essex Olympian Football League
Reserve Division One
Bishops Stortford Swifts 4 v Epping 2
Epping fielded a reserve team and Swifts pulled them from all parts of the country. This game highlighted why the League need to introduce a rule that players need to have played in a certain number of games to play in midweek fixtures. That's not sour grapes its an observation. Nevertheless, poor defending contributed massively to this defeat and the team know defence starts in attack. Three nil down midway through the first half Epping had all but lost the fixture after twenty minutes. Important areas of the pitch were given up without a fight to the superior speed of thought and energy of the Swifts side. The visitors gritted their teeth and forced themselves back through Ollie King in the first half. Midway through the second half Swifts struck again but it was followed by the best goal of the game converted by James Kelly after a move of one touch football from inside the Epping half. Epping could have got closer towards the end through a penalty but it was saved and capped a pair of poor midweek performances.
